Award-winning musician Makhadzi has reportedly turned down a R150,000 offer from the organizers of the Phalaphala Royal Heritage Festival.
In the wake of numerous rumors and reports about her alleged rejection of the money, Makhadzi took to social media to set the record straight.
“I am not going to Phalaphala Royal Heritage; they say they don’t have a budget. I am setting the record straight so that my fans and followers shouldn’t say I intentionally refused to be there or I am becoming big-headed,” she wrote, addressing her fans directly.
Makhadzi emphasized her commitment to her principles, stating, “I realized that there were already false rumors spreading about my name in this regard. I’m still Makhadzi of the nation under the motto; no pay, no job, and vice versa.” She clarified that her decision was not driven by arrogance but by a fundamental belief in fair compensation for her work.
The musician also highlighted her upcoming solo event, noting that organizing her one-woman show at Peter Mokaba Stadium on December 21st has given her a deeper understanding of the financial challenges faced by event organizers. “As someone who’s organizing my upcoming one-woman show, I really get on good terms with the fact that organizers aren’t compelled to book an artist without a proper budget to do such,” she added.
Coincidentally, Makhadzi’s Road to One Woman Show event is set to take place on the same day as the Phalaphala Royal Heritage Festival. With tickets nearly sold out, it appears her loyal fans are eagerly anticipating her performance, ensuring that Makhadzi’s December event will be a resounding success.
